History: The ancient name of Alaçatı is Agrillia. Alaçatı takes its name from an Ottoman tribe called ‘Alacaat’. During the Ottoman period, Greeks and Turks lived in Alaçatı. The pronunciation of the word ‘Alacaat’ in Greek was difficult, so ‘Alacaat’ changed over time and took the name Alaçatı used today.
Geography: Alaçatı is located in the west of İzmir, on the northern part of the Çeşme Peninsula. Alaçatı, which has a coastline on the Aegean Sea, is 71 kilometers from İzmir and 8 kilometers from Çeşme.
